5.2 Your Third Trimester Changes
As your pregnancy comes to an end, you will experience a number of changes. Some of these changes are physical, while others are emotional. Here is a look at some of the things you can expect during your third trimester:
Physical Changes:
During the third trimester, your body will continue to change as your baby grows. You may notice that you:
– Gain weight. Most women gain about 10-12 pounds during the third trimester.
– Have trouble sleeping. It can be hard to get comfortable at night when your belly is so big. Many women find that pregnancy pillows help them get the rest they need.
– Experience back pain. As your pregnancy progresses, your back may start to hurt from the extra weight you are carrying.
– Have Braxton Hicks contractions. These are false labor pains that can occur throughout pregnancy, but they are more common in the third trimester.
Emotional Changes:
In addition to physical changes, you may also notice some emotional changes during your third trimester. You may:
– Feel anxious about the upcoming birth. This is normal! Many women feel nervous about labor and delivery.
– Experience mood swings. pregnancy hormones can cause mood swings. You may find yourself crying for no reason or feeling irritated more easily than usual.
– Have trouble concentrating. It can be hard to focus on anything other than your pregnancy and the upcoming birth.
– Feel restless. Many women feel like they have more energy in the third trimester and have trouble sitting still.
These are just some of the changes you may experience during your third trimester. Every pregnancy is different, so you may not experience all of these changes. If you have any concerns, be sure to talk to your doctor or midwife.
