My daughters and their friends have been my greatest teachers as I learned what challenges face teens and how powerful they can be in changing the status of their own health and the situations that affect the health of others. I have seen them be. a force for health and a force for kindness in their own circles and also a labor force for their local or distant communities. That is why they are in my cover image in the portal here. I co-founded this organization and serve as its medical director. In my life I often sense problems and seek ways to solve them. It's like being a doctor and society is the patient. My technology solutions were successful but ahead of their time and too expensive to use or way ahead of where society was ready. We did telemedicine, surgical simulation, and online high quality STEM education beginning in the 1980's, but the connection speed was too slow, the computers too expensive and not mobile, and society did not trust a remote connection or never heard of one. Taking care of patients with horrible diseases was a rewarding experience. so was responding to disasters as a first or second line responder, and improvising on the spot and implementing solutions. I learned valuable lessons in dealing with extreme situations. When people are put into new and challenging roles, some need a great deal of help, and others step up and fill the gaps with exceptional actions and service. The trained professionals run towards the problems with great heroism. We see it with police and fire fighters but we were not surprised. What I have over and over again was teenagers and young adults and retired seniors filling the gap for their friends, families, and communities when any of them were overwhelmed. With a little bit of training and support, they became a force for health and stabilized the situation and helped move things to a recovery phase. They helped take survive, to staying alive, to thrive. I founded Force for Health to help provide the knowledge, skills and resources to help motivate and harness this under recognized and under utilized resource and have it become the service learning opportunity of a lifetime and the difference between disastrous outcomes or dramatic successes. A lesson learned was that we need to be as healthy and knowledgable as possible in ordinary times so that we can be an asset in extraordinary times. The focus on obesity and addiction prevention, social determinants of health, and diversity issues is so important to having strong people and a strong society. I also recognize that governments and agencies often take too long to respond, or are influenced by political or budget issues that don't support preparation, response and recovery fairly. That means, all problems are LOCAL and must have most or all of their solutions be capable of addressing them on a local basis. This only works if the local people can figure out. what to do and step up to help themselves or to selflessly rush in to help their neighbors. In the past few years, slow motion disasters are what I and others are recognizing but we are not responding in ways that are making a large enough difference. We need to be stepping up and running toward the issues and on a grassroots level with the skills and resources we each have, we must chip away at the issues. With a world wide pandemic in an inequitable world, we are in the midst of the first simultaneously world wide local problem during an age of instant communication and limited resources. Now, once we stabilize ourselves and neighbors, we must extend our reach and realize our family and neighbors are everyone on Earth. With the eventual power of the Force for Health Network, and waves of confident empowered people, we can add to the knowledge available for free or low cost worldwide, and help spread the movement with media messaging, validated community solutions, and votes for the best policies. I believe everyone can be a force for health for themselves and then do the same for others. I believe everyone must be personally responsible for their own health and contribute to making it a healthier, kinder, and equitable world for their neighbors, worldwide.

Because it is mild, I never get enough support from even health workers and family and friends. But it can be painful at times especially my back for prolonged sitting or standing and sometimes my body can't sustain prolonged physical activity. I have educated myself from the internet. I have become proactive despite not getting acknowledged by the community. I learned yoga, a bit of meditation and just understand better that my simply walking can help a lot. I have also encouraged my family especially my parents to be more open with health services, guiding them to health check ups. And this is what I'll continue to do with Force for Health.
We are dealing with a pressing need to use and understand numbers, calculations, and conclusions based on analysis. The community of Tucson is a humble, hidden gem in Southern Arizona full of diverse and hardworking citizens, beautifully unmatched desert scenery, a top 100 nationally ranked university (sorry ASU), and some pretty damn good food if you know where to find it. Three and a half years ago I became the first member of my family to live in Tucson as I sought (and continue to seek) a career in medicine, and I did not know what to expect from this little place. I have learned a lot now, like how Tucson is much bigger than people think, and how there are also many people living in rural areas negatively affected by specific health needs. I hope to team up with the Force For Health Network and work to close the health disparity gaps which unfortunately continue to plague thousands of lives in this wonderful society tucked into the very corner of the Southwestern United States. Being a Force For Health is being a force for good.
The one this i want people to knw is that there is a app that makes there lifestyle easy to monitor and maintain a health diet and lifestyle so they can always and remain healthy.
Our community cares about our neighbors, but we are struggling a bit with recent political and pandemic issues, crazy weather, and all the previous issues with chronic diseases, overdoses, and obesity. I can't wait to get more people to become free Basics Members and maybe get some of us to work as Ambassadors. The people can make things happen in our town. They always have.

Tucson is a great community with 320 days of sunshine, friendly people and beautiful scenery. We do need to work more, though, on better supporting health and wellness programs for our educational systems. Both the staff and students, along with their families will be better off, which will serve our economic interests better in the long run with a healthier, more balanced and happy workforce.
I live in rural Pennsylvania in an area filled with the need for education and health literacy. Most individuals in my community will graduate high school and take then one of two paths. One, enter the workforce within my community, or two, graduate high school and come back to the community to work. This means that our school system is crucial to educating those who come through the schools, so improving education is crucial in promoting literacy.
My community is supportive and driven, where people work together, celebrate successes, and help each other grow.
I live in Hamilton. It is in Canada and is beautiful and surrounded by waterfalls and parks. It is great place to get exercise outdoors. We have a strong Latino Community and I am proud to be a part of that.
I love Canada as it is my birthplace and it is very safe overall. We are very fortunate to have a publicly funded health care system. It is not perfect but we have much to be grateful. I'm interested in stars to form constellations to bridge gaps in care primarily in western Canada but I'm a global citizen 🙂 Please visit my websites for additional information about my interests.

The University of Virginia is quite diverse in its student body, considering that the school is a public, state school, meaning most of the students are from in-state. There are a ton of international students and students from all over the United States, of different ethnicities and cultures, which I think is great.

This is a small college town in the middle of the State. There are beautiful hiking trails and also an historic campus and old buildings, set in a valley with mountains, streams, and wildlife.

Additionally, it consists of networking group members and my audiences, both virtually and in person. Those in my community support me, as an individual, an entrepreneur, a speaker, coach, author, wife, friend and family member. I work together with the community people and stakeholders to improve and upgrade the welfare of the less privileged in the communities within the Rural district of Waterloo to realized the necessity of establishment means of contributing to their community needs to improve lives of children, youths and Women in communities by focusing on Agriculture, Health and microcredit to help them build a new future and their human capital so that they can help to reduce the poverty rate around their communities and the country as a whole. Since the end of the Ebola in 2015 in Sierra Leone, Waterloo Rural community was among the worst communities affected by the virus; and most youths, women and young children lost their parents and loved ones. Consequently, most of these youths, women and children resorted into drinking, thuggery, and cliques and became drug addicts as a way of caring for themselves and fighting for their daily survival. This situation has apparently led to the general increase in crime rates, school drop outs, early child pregnancy, Early Marriage, FGM, Child Labor, Domestic Violence against Women, prostitution and rape in almost all the communities with in the environs of Waterloo Rural District.
The University of Virginia is a very diverse community that has a lot to offer in many ways.
We are a historic region who seems to care about health and wellness for everybody, but I still notice huge differences when it comes to who has access to what. I'd like to get involved and help close those gaps. The color of your skin shouldn't dictate how people treat you, so I'm on a mission to change what I can.
yes….. much as I know, Uganda is reaching a stage where only the rich can attain education even if the government started up the Universal primary and secondary education to cater for the poor children. Here am referring to good quality education not the staled education syllabuses in most of the government and cheap schools in Uganda. A poor Ugandan child barely goes to school, for the few that have the chance to go have faced several challenges that even forced some of them to drop out. What a weary time it is for the poor children in Uganda, having the desire and need to go to school, but not the ability, we really need to pick them up and support their education, or else, in their later days, they are innocently going to face the consequences of illiteracy that they didn’t cause to themselves but rather we the reluctant public that didn’t take concern about their education. I want people to know and may we can find durable solutions for my commmunities……
Washington, D.C., is more than just the nation’s capital; it is a vibrant and diverse community filled with rich culture, history, and resilience. While it is known for its political significance, the city's heart lies in its people. However, like many urban areas, D.C. faces significant disparities, particularly in health outcomes across different neighborhoods, with underserved communities often lacking access to quality healthcare and resources. Despite these challenges, the community is filled with grassroots efforts, advocates, and organizations working tirelessly to create equitable opportunities.
I consider myself a very regional person vs 1 community. What I would say about all of the 20+ communities that I serve is that they each have their own personalities and are wonderful in their own ways. But I would say as a whole the rural communities do suffer from poor health.
I come from the Indian community a culture rich in diversity, tradition, and deep-rooted values. What I’d love people to know is that we are a community that emphasizes family, education, resilience, and hospitality. We celebrate unity in diversity, with hundreds of languages, cuisines, festivals, and customs that reflect our inclusiveness and spirit. We value hard work and lifelong learning, and many of us strive to uplift not only ourselves but also others around us. Whether it’s through sharing food, offering support, or preserving traditions while embracing innovation, my community always finds a way to stay connected and grounded. I'm proud to be part of a culture that teaches the importance of caring for others, and I carry those values with me in everything I do.
People drive to fast and sometimes wreck
I would like people to know that Tucson is an ever changing, diverse city with a small town feel that embraces all people and it’s surroundings. Despite the heat being to much to bear at times, the summer nights and beautiful sunsets make it all worth it! Tucson also has a large Latino community that I can say I am proud to be apart of.
My community is a community that has its ups and downs.
Being honestly, I do not know much about our community because I moved there two years ago, and I have never attended to any community activities. I feel like my community is pretty save and all the life needs are easy to access.
We are a very rural community who don't really have the chance to talk with each other and are very sparsely spread around most of the time you can go the whole day only talking with your family and most of the time you only see people when you go out to buy groceries.
I want everyone to understand that my society is rich in culture, traditions, and values. It is a society where people assist one another, celebrate festivals joyfully, and uphold firmly established traditions. Hard work, hospitality, and a feeling of oneness define the community ethos. Despite adversity, there is always a desire for progress, education, and advancement. It is a society where history and modernity blend to provide a rare and inspiring context.
My community is founded on principles of equality, service, and spirituality. We hold a belief in a single God and stress the significance of selfless service (Seva) to assist others. Sikhs oppose discrimination due to caste or gender and advocate for inclusivity. Our activities emphasize remembering God, achieving a fair livelihood, and distributing resources, promoting kindness and community involvement in daily life.
Hi my name is Jazlyn and I am an intern with NAU getting my bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Wellness. I am so excited to be a part of this community and to help others know more about wellness!
My community is characterized by resilience, collaboration, and a strong emphasis on education and health. People support one another in overcoming challenges and are open to innovation, which fosters an environment where collective well-being and growth are prioritized.
My community is a very open minded driven group of individuals. Since being at NAU, I have felt very accepted and included no matter where I go. One of my favorite things about NAU is how many people I find to be like minded when it comes to fitness. Whether that being going to the gym and eating healthy, or spending the day at our local ski resort or hiking in Sedona, I find it really cool that people like to keep themselves moving.
We are a fun and loving community that is constantly motivated to better ourselves.
I would like people to know about my community that this community is a safe space and there is always room for growth and progress.

My community is full of resilience, kindness, and quiet strength. We may come from diverse backgrounds, but we share a spirit of support, curiosity, and the desire to grow—together. Whether it’s through sports, wellness, or simply lending a helping hand, people here care deeply about each other and the environment around us. It’s a place where small actions create meaningful impact, and where healthy living is not just a goal, but a shared journey. I’m proud to be part of a community that uplifts one another and believes in the power of connection.
Us students and interns are extremely excited to get involved!
The Flagstaff community places a huge emphasis on spending time outdoors!
The Philippines is the largest nurse supplier in the world. It doesn't sound as good as it does. Most Filipino nurses would prefer to work in countries like the USA and UAE because they are more valued and more compensated working there than in the Philippines.

I have always lived on the south side of Chicago and within my community we have great schools, parks and recreation, grocery stores, and health clinics that are easily accessible. Although my community is filled with abundant resources, if I were to drive about 10 minutes east there is a lack of resources, increased poverty, and violence that makes most areas of the city unsafe. I would like to see changes be made making communities more plentiful and safe.
I want people to know that my community it s=centered around encouragement, growth and honesty.
I come from a close-knit community in Nepal where values like respect, hard work, and support for one another are deeply rooted. Our culture is rich in tradition, hospitality, and resilience. Now living in Canada, I’ve also become part of a diverse and welcoming community that embraces people from all backgrounds. I believe both communities show the importance of unity, cultural pride, and the strength that comes from helping each other grow.
I belong to two communities; Villanova and New Orleans. I would like people to know that these two communities are poor opposites in almost every aspect such as: race demographic, funding opportunities, access to resources, culture, equitable healthcare, and education. However, combining these two communities offers tremendous opportunities to advance the dream and promote health and wellness.
Small businesses are my community's life blood!
Through all the farmers and country folks there are young, ambitious city slickers too like me!
I would like people to know that my community in Sudbury, Ontario, is a vibrant and diverse city, known for its rich history, beautiful natural landscapes, and strong focus on education and innovation. As a growing hub for technology and business, Sudbury offers opportunities for learning and development, especially in fields like business analytics and engineering. Additionally, Nepal, my home country, is famous for being home to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, and the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. Nepal is also known for its rich biodiversity, including wildlife like tigers, rhinos, and snow leopards, which thrive in the country's national parks. Both communities have shaped my values and aspirations, inspiring me to contribute meaningfully to global and local projects.
It is a very active, I am an college athlete. I'm usually busy and always on the go, I'm very outgoing and always willing to help those around me and keeping those around me who are willing to do the same.
It's pretty small, but everyone knows almost everyone and we get along well. I know most of the kids in the neighborhood, and we all hang out and have some fun. We share food sometimes too, and have (had, before coronavirus) cookouts and barbecues.
My community is rich in culture, tradition, and resilience. The people here value hard work, education, and progress, while also maintaining strong connections to their roots. There is immense potential for growth, and I hope to contribute by promoting awareness, learning, and positive initiatives that benefit society as a whole.

that we will try to make changes in the world
There is a reason why PSU is situated in "Happy Valley"
I would like people to know that my community is rich in diversity, resilience, and a strong sense of togetherness. Whether in Cameroon or here in Ottawa, I’ve seen how people support one another, adapt to challenges, and find creative ways to grow and succeed. In Cameroon, there’s a deep cultural pride, entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to education despite limited resources. In Ottawa, the community is welcoming, multicultural, and driven by collaboration and innovation.
I live in the NOVA area, about 5 minutes from DC. Something unique about my community is that it's not very diverse, but it has a lot of different opportunities for everyone if taken advantage of. It is also very walkable which is something I value a lot.
I live in a small community located between two major cities. It is growing extremely fast. It is located near a beach and has lots of walking trails.
I just moved here, so not sure yet. I love the mountains and the people seem nice.
Tucson definitely has what it takes to score well in the Reality Health Games!
As much as I know, Kenya has reached a stage where only the rich attains quality education even if the government started up the free primary education . I am referring here to the quality education, not just education syllabuses in most of government and cheap schools in Kenya. A poor Kenyan child barely goes to school. For the few that have the chance to go, they still faced several challenges that even forced some of them to drop out. What a weary time it is for poor children in Kenya, who have the desire and need to go to school, but not the ability. We really need to pick them up and support their education, or else, in their later days, they are innocently going to face the consequences of illiteracy because of the lack of their education. I also want my community women to know that we can prevent cancer by having pap smear done after every two years in order to be cancer free. I want my community to know that we can find durable solutions for quality education and cancer prevention for our community and county as a whole.
"We Are"
My community is vibrant, encouraging, and dedicated to enhancing health and well-being. We prioritize education, diligence, and collective growth and I like this.
I live in an urban poor community, but it is far from depressing—it's vibrant, resilient, and full of life. No matter the hardship, we find ways to laugh and move forward. When a typhoon hits, the next morning, you'll hear people cracking jokes and helping each other rebuild. The sense of community here is strong, with families and neighbors closely connected. Beyond my immediate surroundings lies a bustling Cebu City—the oldest city in the Philippines, rich in history and culture, yet constantly evolving with technology. It is a hub for education and job opportunities, drawing people from across the region. In terms of healthcare, Cebu is home to the biggest hospitals in the Visayas, making it a key destination for medical services and treatments. Recently, my community is also active with healthy trends. Especially hiking and getting connected with nature is a huge thing here. For every circle of friend, you can count an outdoor enthusiast.
I am originally from San Diego, California, but I currently reside in Flagstaff, Arizona where I attend Northern Arizona University. In Flagstaff the opportunities are endless for outdoor activities. From taking a nice stroll a Buffalo Park, to Hiking Mount Humphreys, to snowboarding at Snow Bowl, and being just a short drive away from the Grand Canyon and Sedona there is so much to experience. Flagstaff also has a lot of diversity and people from different backgrounds which can be attributed to the large Native American population since Flagstaff is relatively close to the reservations of the the Hopi, Yavapai, Navajo, and Havasupai.
Vancouver is a beautiful city where healthy-living and eco-friendly lifestyle is encouraged and supported.
My community is made up of hardworking, diverse, and supportive people who care about each other. We come from different backgrounds, but we share common values like respect, resilience, and a desire to grow together. While we face challenges—like access to health resources or awareness—we also have great potential to improve our well-being through education, unity, and positive action.
They are both beautiful with lots of outdoor options like hiking and skiing. They are both smaller communities in colder areas.

"My community is a blend of both urban and rural areas in India, and while it faces challenges such as limited access to healthcare and information about wellness, it is also incredibly resilient and resourceful. We have a strong sense of unity, with many local organizations and individuals working together to improve the well-being of all members. People here are passionate about health, and there is a growing interest in preventive care and wellness education. While there are obstacles like financial barriers and lack of infrastructure, the community's commitment to supporting one another is what makes it unique. I don’t truly believe we have one
My community does a pretty good job at staying in shape because of major accessibility to parks and gyms.
offering convenient times and locations to exercise at campus gyms. Additionally, Penn State offers many health-conscious items throughout their dining halls.

My community focuses heavily on the fitness aspect of health, and I often see many people working out daily in some capacity.
Students are young so they are fairly healthy.
Community engagement, supporting each other and uplifting each other, sharing experiences with each other
Healthy eating is important to our community. Finding grocery stores and restaurants that offer healthy food choices is an easy task. There is also a big variety of activities that can be done outside, regardless of the weather.
While there are many strengths, there are still! challenges, such as food insecurity, healthcare access, mental health stigma, or environmental concerns. These challenges affect not only individual well-being but also community cohesion and overall health outcomes.
Not getting regular exercise, and not prioritizing sleep and a regular sleep schedule.
Despite many strengths, my community faces challenges such as limited access to affordable healthcare resources, varying levels of health awareness, and barriers related to lifestyle habits. Mental health support, in particular, can sometimes be overlooked, and not everyone feels comfortable seeking help. Additionally, social and economic differences can create gaps in opportunities for healthy living, such as access to nutritious food, safe spaces for physical activity, and preventive care. These challenges highlight the need for continued education, outreach, and innovative solutions to ensure that every member of the community can thrive.
The following are some of the health-related challenges in my community: Access to Healthcare: Many residents face transportation and budgetary constraints that prevent them from receiving quality healthcare treatments. Health discrepancies: There are significant discrepancies in health outcomes among demographic groups, which are influenced by socioeconomic status and race. Chronic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity, are becoming more common, and they are frequently associated with poor diet and a lack of physical activity. Mental Health Awareness: Stigma around mental health causes a lack of awareness and inadequate support for individuals in need.
Low level of Health Education, Poor Health coverage and Insufficient Health facilities
Some of the challenges in our community of health factors that we need to improve on is the patient being seen and heard. Some people don’t have insurnace so i think if its a serious health people should be seen and not turned down no matter what even if the health leads to death!
Some challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are lack of health insurance, elderly adults having to face with housing affordability, transportation gaps, a lack of caregivers and mental health.
Some challenges in my community would be a lack of activities when it comes to being active. People may want to get active, but there are only so many things to do. I believe Force for Health can help give ideas to stay active.
Disparities in access to healthcare, particularly for newcomers who may face language barriers or lack familiarity with the local system.
I think that the amount of fast food and ways of entertainment can sometimes over power caring for certain health factors in my community.
Some challenges my community faces are the costs of healthcare. I believe many people do not get the care they need because of the amount it would cost them.
One of the biggest challenges is the heavy academic workload, which can increase stress, reduce sleep, and make it harder for students to maintain a healthy balance in their lives. Many students also struggle with juggling school, work, and personal responsibilities, which can lead to burnout and less time for proper rest, exercise, or healthy eating. On top of this, financial pressures and the high cost of living can add to stress and affect overall well-being. For international students, cultural and social adjustments can also pose added challenges that impact both mental and physical health.
Access to timely healthcare services can sometimes be limited due to the growing population and provider shortages. Additionally, mental health support, especially for students and newcomers, could be more widely available and accessible. Public health education in different languages could also better serve the diverse population.
We need affordable fresh food. It is so much cheaper to eat at Taco Bell than cook what I buy at the grocery store.
Some challenges in my community regarding health factors include limited access to healthcare resources, health disparities, and a lack of awareness about preventative care.
addiction and obesity
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of awareness about preventive care. Conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and mental health issues often go undiagnosed. There’s also hesitation around discussing mental health or seeking professional help, which makes it harder for people to get the support they need.
One of the main challenges is mental health stigma, which prevents many individuals from seeking help or discussing their struggles openly. There’s also a lack of sufficient resources for mental health services, making it difficult for people to access the support they need. Another challenge is poor lifestyle choices, such as low physical activity and unhealthy eating habits, which contribute to rising rates of obesity and related chronic diseases.
I am fairly new to this area, but I have noticed financial burden and lack of education seem to be common barriers for people looking to get healthy.
Difficulty accessing healthcare facilities, specialists, or affordable services.
We don't have access to the downtown facility. The insurance is too confusing, the phones put you on hold, and there is no bus there and I no longer have a car. We also need people like me to help in the few community programs we have. Most are underfunded and count on volunteers. Training about health and social service careers, and access to jobs there at all levels would be great.
Low engagement at times.
Non-awareness of the importance of knowing how to administer CPR and other life saving techniques.
Our community is challenged by too many people knowing too little about ways to help improve their health.
It is such a big community it can be hard to connect.
Healthy food options
I truly believe that Health and Wellness should be prioritized like Reading, math and science. In fact, you need to be proficient in all of these base areas to be able to make better decisions towards health.
Some of the challenges in my community would be the health literacy aspect. As I believe individuals need to be more educated on how to take care of their bodies and the harmful effects of their behaviors. This could mean educating people on the detrimental effects of smoking, or the process of acquired immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine, to the basics of eating a balanced diet.
Some challenges in my community regarding health factors are access to resources, addressing mental health needs, and promoting long-term healthy habits.
A large problem is the access people have to proper nutrition. This often causes families who cannot afford a car to rely on fast food as my local community does not have a walkable way to a supermarket.
The easy access to un-nutrition meals/fast food
-The opioid issue -Homelessness -Burnout among health care workers
Most of them in my community do not understand the importance of physical activity, yoga, or staying fit in general, which makes most of them suffer from obesity, heart problems, etc,.
One major challenge is the decentralized status of public health focused initiatives in our community. Everybody is in their own silos and there is limited connectivity between the business, healthcare, education and civic leaders to be effective. There is a tremendous opportunity for better interagency collaboration to support resources for our teachers and schools. One of the other challenges in my community is that there are a lot of naysayers who like to politicize population health factors and issues and easily casted around a lot of negativity as opposed to Useful suggestions and recommendations. So I’m committed to combat that and start taking a more bold voice to calling those people out.
The dining options can be limited, especially for students without access to transportation like a car. This is especially prevalent for students with dietary restrictions; my friend has a gluten intolerance and she can eat very little if not none of the offerings at the University's numerous dining spots.
Language and cultural barriers that limit access to health and financial information. Lack of financial literacy: many families are unaware of the tax credits and benefits to which they are entitled. Stigmatization of mental health: few services adapted in French or culturally sensitive. High cost of housing and transportation: a source of stress and insecurity for many low-income households.
High levels of individual stress among students as well as Penn State employees working with those students. Stigmas around mental health problems that limit individuals seeking support they need to prevent or treat mental illness.
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors include limited access to healthcare resources, a lack of awareness about preventive health measures, and socioeconomic disparities that affect overall well-being. As a newly established community, we are still working to build connections with local healthcare providers and organizations, which can make it difficult for residents to access necessary services. Additionally, there is often a gap in knowledge about healthy lifestyle choices and preventive care, leading to higher rates of preventable diseases. Socioeconomic factors, such as income inequality and education levels, further exacerbate these challenges, making it essential for us to address these issues collectively. By recognizing these challenges, we can work together to develop targeted initiatives that promote health equity and improve the overall health of our community.
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are:Access to healthcare services can be limited, especially for vulnerable groups. There are also challenges with awareness and education about important health issues. Sometimes, lack of resources and funding makes it harder to provide the support people need. Despite these challenges, my community is working hard to overcome them and improve overall health and well-being.
College kids tend to drink and use substances an unhealthy amount.
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are trying to maintain a healthy diet and exercising when they have a busy schedule. There are also social determinants of health that affect people's health, like behavior.
Some locals are deniers of the COVID crisis and are vocal about not complying with things such as social distancing and masks. Some of the college students coming in, don't seem to care about others, and assume their youth puts them at little risk for anything.
A challenge I know my community is facing right now is Covid. Having people come in from different states going to classes and activities affects the health safety of the whole community. Another factor I think could be an issue is mental health awareness.
Some of the challenges facing my community include knowledge of available resources. Individuals face challenges including fear of the unknown, acknowledging one's strengths and areas of weakness and asking for help.
In an age of technology, a large majority of the population here at UVA spends a large chunk of their time sitting at a desk studying. For example, during finals week the gyms are nearly empty due to the lack of time students have to spend towards anything besides studying. Furthermore, alongside the sedentary life we have transitioned to live in, the food offered by the university lacks necessary vegetables and essential minerals/vitamins that are needed to maintain a healthy gut/overall health.
There are significant disparities in healthcare access and outcomes across neighborhoods, with underserved communities facing higher rates of chronic disease and maternal and infant mortality. Economic inequality and limited resources for vulnerable populations exacerbate these issues.
Access to doctors and care without traveling 1+ hour each way. Motivating movement and physical activities.
Despite many strengths, my community faces challenges such as limited access to affordable and timely healthcare in some areas, especially for chronic diseases like diabetes and heart conditions. There can be a lack of awareness or stigma around mental health, which prevents many from seeking help. Additionally, rapid urbanization and lifestyle changes have led to rising rates of obesity and related health issues. Addressing these challenges requires continued education, improved healthcare infrastructure, and culturally sensitive outreach programs to ensure everyone receives the care and support they need.
smoking
My community faces challenges regarding access to information on health and well-being. Many people are not aware of the importance of natural foods and physical activity. Being apart of the Force for Health Network has taught me everything I need to know in a simple and easily digestible way. Improving the knowledge for others with this tool can aid in reducing the challenge.
Unfortunately we have drugs in my community which I'm sure is everywhere. I think that poses some issues. But we do have good thing also. We do have a lot of elderly which my have its challenges.
Maintaining a healthy diet since people eat a lot.
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are limited access to advanced healthcare services, lack of awareness about preventive health measures, rising lifestyle-related diseases, and mental health stigma.
In my community, challenges regarding health factors include cultural stigma surrounding mental health discussions, generational trauma from historical events like the 1984 riots, and lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes. Additionally, discrimination based on appearance can affect access to healthcare services. These issues require culturally sensitive awareness campaigns and education to address effectively.
Some challenges in my community are it is very overwhelming, sometimes, looking at all the resources and things that we need to be careful about being on a college campus. I often feel like there is no way I can prevent everything and get anxious about it. I think possibly setting up a way where we students can look online or a booklet to look up health issues and they provide the resources there.
Barriers such as unequal access to healthcare, socioeconomic disparities, and limited outreach to vulnerable populations make it difficult to achieve consistent health outcomes.
Some challenges I think my community faces are promoting health on a scale that will actually be seen or heard. Although this community does have a lot to offer when it comes to health, I think it could be promoted better so that more people hear about it and can actually utilize it.
Retention
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are time management, the environment they live in, correct amount of funds, etc.
> Lack of mental health awareness > Limited access to healthcare system > Addiction and unusual consumption of alcohol and drugs.
Being able to afford healthy foods. Philadelphia is very impoverished, and to the impoverished, unhealthy food is more convenient and affordable than healthy foods.
diabetes high blood overweight
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are limited access to affordable healthcare, disparities in health education, and lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and stress. These issues are compounded by socioeconomic barriers and cultural stigmas, which make it harder for many people to seek timely care and adopt healthier habits.
not enough time for physical fitness and not allocating time for their health
While my community has many strengths, we also face challenges—especially when it comes to access and awareness. Not everyone has equal opportunities or resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle, whether it’s due to time constraints, financial barriers, or lack of information about nutrition and mental health. In some cases, people may not prioritize their well-being until a health issue arises. Building more education, motivation, and supportive environments can help encourage earlier action and long-term healthy habits. I believe with continued effort and collaboration, we can overcome these challenges together.
We have smaller access to some aspects of health
Sometimes people use weather as an excuse not to be active. There are always alternative ways to stay active!
One of the challenges that we face regarding health factors is that people tend to not participate to health programs. If you know the "isang kain, isang tuka" concept, you would understand where they are coming from. Sometimes, even if it's free it's hard to convince people to join.
1) Poor Nutrition and Food Insecurity: If access to nutritious food is limited, whether due to economic factors or a lack of local grocery stores with healthy options, it can lead to poor diets and health issues like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. 2) Lack of Health Education: Without proper education on topics like preventive care, nutrition, and healthy habits, people may not have the knowledge or resources to make healthier choices, which can lead to preventable illnesses. 3) Economic Barriers: Financial struggles can prevent individuals from accessing health insurance, paying for medications, or affording healthy foods or fitness programs. This often leads to delayed or inadequate care, worsening health conditions over time.

Some of the challenges in my community regarding health factors are the risk of chronic diseases, pollution, drug abuse, sexual health education programs, and mental health screenings.
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are limited access to healthcare services, lack of awareness about preventive care, and sometimes economic barriers that make it hard for people to get the support they need. Some challenges in my community in New Orleans is having equitable access to health care and having the appropriate knowledge to have swift access.
