Dimension I: Practices
According to The National Academies Press’s A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas (2012), practices refers to the behaviors that scientists engage in as they investigate the natural world. This dimension encompasses eight key ideas.
NGSS Eight Key Ideas
Asking questions and defining problems
What is a health issue in our community? What health problem exists and how do we want to solve it?
Developing and using models
How can we best address this issue?
Planning and carrying out investigations, obtaining information
What is our action plan or method? How long will this take? What resources do we have or need? What data do we need to collect?
Analyzing and interpreting data
What data shows that this is a concern in our community? What data showed that we improved the health of our community from our action plan?
Using mathematics and computational thinking
Making graphs, charts, tables, etc.
