Love life and Be Grateful

Gloria Borges
Tell Us about yourself:

Hello, my name is Becky Keller, and I’m the President and Executive Director of the Gloria Borges Wunderglo Foundation. I am incredibly proud to be a part of the Cologuard Classic and to raise awareness for colorectal cancer, increase curative research, and support medication and treatment efficacy for the cure for this disease.

My daughter and only child, Gloria Borges, was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer at the age of 28, with no family history or symptoms. Despite this, she was an amazing and brilliant young lady all her life. Gloria went to Duke and was the president of her class, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She scored 99% on her LSAT and was accepted to all top 10 law schools, ultimately choosing Stanford. She was then recruited by her dream law firm, Melvin and Myers.

They had her on the partner path for all the most important cases the firm had, and at age 28, she was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. Her response to the diagnosis was that God always made her a leader, and this was another way to teach, help, and guide people.

Gloria started her blog called Wunderglo, which means miracle in German, and “glow” is for Gloria. It quickly gained popularity in over 135 countries, with over 100,000 unique visitors. Many people reached out to her for lifestyle support, such as exercise and diet. One year after her diagnosis, in September 2011, she launched the Wunderglo Foundation. She ran the organization brilliantly for two and a half years until her untimely passing on January 5th, 2014.

Becky Keller left her 30-year career in commercial banking to run the Wunderglo Foundation after her daughter’s passing. Their mission is to fund curative research for colorectal cancer, which is currently underfunded. They also offer free reiki and guided meditation to patients, caregivers, family members, survivors, and more. They provide patient navigation and have affiliates with oncologists and surgeons at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Keck Medicine of USC.

The Wunderglo Foundation has now been running for 12 years and has funded $1.75 million for the cure of colorectal cancer. They have also funded 27 scholarships for children who have lost a parent to colorectal cancer and are pursuing their secondary education. They offer holiday gifts to the children of all cancer patients, survivors, and those who have passed from the disease locally and internationally.

For Becky Keller, the Wunderglo Foundation is a legacy for her daughter and in honor of all the patients she loved, who we love, and for whom we seek a cure. Gloria’s mantra was “love, life, and be grateful,” and that is what the foundation embodies. They strive to find joy every day, no matter the circumstances. They focus on gratitude and living life to the fullest.

In conclusion, Becky Keller and the Gloria Borges Wunderglo Foundation are working hard to end colorectal cancer by funding curative research, providing support for patients, and striving for a cure. They continue to honor Gloria’s legacy by embodying her mantra of love, life, and gratitude.
