International Group B Strep Throat Awareness Month

July is International Group B Strep Throat Awareness Month. This disease, also known as Streptococcus pyogenes, is a serious infection that can lead to death. It usually affects young children, but can occur in adults as well.

Group B strep throat is caused by a bacteria that lives in the throat and nose. The bacteria can spread through contact with contaminated surfaces or objects, or by coughing or sneezing. It can also be passed from person to person through close contact, such as kissing.

Symptoms of group B strep throat include fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. The disease can also cause death if it is not treated promptly.
