UN SDG’s – Goal #14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
Welcome students, to our fourteenth session exploring the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals! Our focus today will be on goal number fourteen, Life Below Water. This goal seeks to conserve and sustainably use the world’s ocean, seas and marine resources. We’ll explore how we can protect key habitats such as coral reefs and mangroves, prevent overfishing and reduce pollution from land-based activities. We’ll also look into new technologies that are being developed to improve sustainable management of marine resources, such as aquaculture systems for food production. By taking concerted action now, we can restore balance to the world’s ecosystems in order to ensure a better future for all of us who depend on them.
Clean oceans stabilize the world’s water and food supply…and are fun to swim in. Saving the ocean is part of being a force for health.
- Support local organizations that work to protect and conserve marine life and ocean ecosystems.
- Organize a beach or river cleanup in your community to remove trash and debris.
- Consider doing an education campaign about protecting the ocean oil or other things dumped down sewers, or plastics that make their way to the ocean and hurt ocean wildlife.
