Women’s History Month: Honoring Women’s Contributions, Past and Present

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and inspire future generations to continue breaking barriers. Women have made extraordinary contributions in every field, from science and politics to social justice and the arts.

During this month, we reflect on women’s accomplishments, explore their untold stories, and continue working toward gender equality in all facets of life.

Three Facts:
1. Women’s History Month originated as Women’s History Week in 1982 and became a national observance in 1987.

2. The theme for 2025 is “MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER,” spotlighting women educating and inspiring generations. This theme is meant to highlight and support women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship and leadership to shape the minds and futures of all generations.  This is the perfect theme to relaunch My Girl Power, a Force for Health Empowerment Clubs, kicking off on March 8, International Women and Girls Day.  Stay tuned.

3. Despite historical inequities, women continue to excel in fields such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), where female representation has grown steadily in recent decades.

How You Can Celebrate:
1. Read or share books by female authors, highlighting women’s resilience and achievements.
2. Support women-owned businesses and donate to organizations advancing women’s rights.
3. Host or attend local events amplifying women’s contributions to history, culture, and society.

Three Resources:

  1. National Women’s History Alliance – Stories, academic resources, and program guides for celebration.
  2. Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum – Explore exhibits on women’s achievements across centuries.
  3. UN Women – Global efforts toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.
