Medical Minutes with Dr. Rob: Epilepsy

Fact: Approximately 3.4 million Americans live with epilepsy, a neurological condition that causes recurrent, unprovoked seizures.

Hi, this is Dr. Rob with Dr. Rob’s Medical Minutes.
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month.

Why it’s Important
Epilepsy affects people of all ages and can impact daily life, employment, and safety. Awareness and education help reduce stigma and support those affected in managing the condition.

Symptoms and Findings
Epilepsy symptoms vary, with seizure types including convulsions, loss of consciousness, or subtle changes like staring or unusual sensations. Diagnosing seizure type is essential for effective treatment.

What to Do and Ask Your Doctor
If you experience any unexplained seizures or fainting episodes, see a doctor for an evaluation. Treatments include medication, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgery. Support networks and education can empower those with epilepsy to lead full, safe lives.

Learn it, Live it, Share it. Be a Force for Health!
