Love Safely: Prioritizing Sexual Health This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about love, connection, and special moments. As you plan your celebrations today and beyond, don’t forget one of the most important ways to show care for yourself and your partner: prioritizing sexual health.

To help you make informed choices, here are some simple ways to protect yourself and your partner this Valentine’s season:

1.Know Your Status, Protect Your Future

Testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is essential to protecting your health and your partner’s. Regular testing is the only way to know your status and take charge of your health. The good news? Free or low-cost testing is available statewide.

2. Use Protection Every Time

Condoms and dental dams are easy, effective ways to prevent the spread of STIs, including HIV. Keeping protection on hand helps you enjoy intimacy while staying safe.

Fun fact: February 14 isn’t just Valentine’s Day—it’s also National Condom Day! It’s a great reminder to stock up on protection and celebrate safe, responsible intimacy.

3. Talk Openly with Your Partner

Honest conversations about sexual health build trust and confidence in any relationship. Talking about testing, protection, and prevention ensures that you and your partner are on the same page and making informed choices together.

4. Get Vaccinated for Extra Protection

Did you know that vaccines can prevent some STIs, like HPV and hepatitis B? Check with your healthcare provider to see if you’re up to date on these important vaccinations.

Love is about care and respect, and that includes looking out for your sexual health. This Valentine’s Day, take a moment to prioritize your well-being—and encourage your loved ones to do the same.
