National Women’s Health Week

National Women’s Health Week: Empower Wellness, Embrace Strength
Observed: May 12-18, 2025

National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) is an annual observance led by the Office on Women’s Health (OWH) to encourage women of all ages to prioritize their physical and mental health. It’s a time to empower women to take proactive steps toward wellness by focusing on prevention, screenings, and self-care.

Three Facts:
1. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, making regular cholesterol and blood pressure checks essential.
2. Preventative health screenings, such as Pap smears and mammograms, are key to detecting conditions like cervical and breast cancer in early stages.
3. Mental health plays a large role in women’s overall wellness, with nearly 1 in 5 women experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.

How to Celebrate National Women’s Health Week:
1. Schedule routine screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and cancer screenings, with your healthcare provider.
2. Make self-care a priority—set aside time daily for physical and emotional wellness activities, like yoga or journaling.
3. Educate your community about gender-specific health disparities by participating in local or online health awareness events.

Three Resources:
1. Office on Women’s Health (OWH) – Official NWHW resources and educational toolkits.
2. Go Red for Women – Focused on improving heart health for women.
3. National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) – Information on women’s mental health and support services.

The event is finished.
