Location

"I am based in Ludhiana Punjab. I consider my community to be a blend of urban and rural areas, where access to healthcare and health education can vary significantly. The challenges we face are unique, and I believe my work will help bridge these gaps in healthcare access."

What would you like people to know about your community?

“My community is a blend of both urban and rural areas in India, and while it faces challenges such as limited access to healthcare and information about wellness, it is also incredibly resilient and resourceful. We have a strong sense of unity, with many local organizations and individuals working together to improve the well-being of all members. People here are passionate about health, and there is a growing interest in preventive care and wellness education. While there are obstacles like financial barriers and lack of infrastructure, the community’s commitment to supporting one another is what makes it unique. My Citizenship Health Factors

Some of the factors that have been challenging for me have been...

One of the challenges I’ve faced is understanding the diverse health needs within my community, especially regarding access to healthcare and health education. Balancing my academic responsibilities with the time commitment needed for community engagement has also been a challenge, but it has taught me valuable time management skills.”

It's important for me to be part of my community's health because...

It’s important for me to be involved in my community’s health because the well-being of individuals impacts the collective strength of the community. By contributing to health initiatives, I can help improve the quality of life for my neighbors, reduce health disparities, and promote healthier living habits. As a student, I feel responsible for ensuring future generations have the resources and education to lead healthy lives.”

Some of the strength of my community health factors are:
  • My community is deeply committed to supporting each other, with several local health initiatives and wellness programs that promote physical and mental well-being. We also have access to a number of community centers and health awareness campaigns that help inform and engage people about preventive health practices. I’m proud of how people in my community come together to support each other during tough times.”
Some of the challenges in my community regarding certain health factors are:
  • “Despite the strengths, there are challenges such as limited access to quality healthcare in rural areas, lack of awareness about mental health issues, and health misinformation. Additionally, some community members face financial barriers to accessing proper nutrition and healthcare services, which makes it harder for them to maintain good health.”
I believe I can help improve my community's health by...
  • “I believe I can make a difference by using the knowledge and skills I’ve gained through my service-learning project. Whether it’s by helping raise awareness about preventive healthcare, organizing health campaigns, or supporting local organizations like 360 Health Force, I can contribute to educating others about healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, and mental health awareness. By advocating for better healthcare resources and ensuring that everyone has access to essential health information, I can be part of the solution.”

Advancing the DREAM

Advancing the DREAM - What it means to me

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Injustice in healthcare is the biggest inequality for all.” This statement resonates deeply with me, as it highlights the ongoing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, particularly among marginalized communities. I believe that health is a fundamental right, yet many people, especially those in underserved communities, continue to face barriers to quality healthcare, education, and resources.

As someone actively working with the 360 Health Force for Academy app, I see firsthand how these disparities play out, especially in rural and low-income areas. These communities often lack the necessary healthcare infrastructure, information, and support systems needed to ensure everyone can lead a healthy life. This inequality doesn’t just affect those who are directly impacted by it; it affects all of us, as it weakens the foundation of our society.

To me, advancing the DREAM means actively working toward healthcare equality and equity by addressing these disparities. It means advocating for better healthcare access, raising awareness about preventive care, and ensuring that health education reaches all corners of society. By promoting health awareness, especially in communities where resources are limited, I can contribute to Dr. King’s legacy of justice, equality, and opportunity for all.

I believe that my role as a Service Learning Ambassador with 360 Health Force allows me to directly engage with my community, educate individuals about their health rights, and empower them to make informed decisions about their well-being. By advancing health education and working to eliminate barriers to care, I can play a part in creating a more equitable future where everyone, regardless of their background, has access to the healthcare they deserve.

My Action Pledge to Advance the DREAM?

In 2025, my focus will be on increasing access to health education in underserved communities. I will work to raise awareness about preventive healthcare and wellness through local workshops, community outreach, and collaborations with organizations like 360 Health Force for Academy. By empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions, I hope to bridge the gap in healthcare access and contribute to reducing health disparities.

I will also advocate for policies that promote equal access to healthcare resources, particularly in rural and low-income areas. Through these efforts, I aim to make healthcare more accessible, equitable, and effective for everyone, in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of justice and equality for all.
