Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Breaking the Silence, Standing Strong Against Domestic Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this one hits close to home for so many families. Abuse doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. It can be quiet, hidden, and emotional just as often as physical. The good news… awareness, understanding, and support can truly save lives.
💡 3 Things to Learn:
- First, domestic violence is shockingly common. About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men will experience it in their lifetime (CDC, 2023).
- Second, abuse is not just physical… it includes emotional, sexual, psychological, and financial harm (NCADV).
- Third, survivors who have strong support systems and resources are far more likely to escape and heal (The Hotline Annual Report, 2022).
🌱 3 Ways to Live It:
- Be aware of the signs… isolation, frequent excuses for injuries, or a partner who is overly controlling.
- Open the door for conversation by simply saying, “I’m here if you need me.”
- And finally, support prevention efforts in your community whether through volunteering, donating, or advocating for healthier relationships in schools.
🤝 3 Resources to Share:
- The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE is available 24/7.
- The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence works toward advocacy and change.
- And the CDC Intimate Partner Violence site provides data and prevention tools.
Here on the Force for Health® platform, you might also take the Love Thy Neighbor Challenge, build strength through Resiliency 101, or learn how communities can support survivors through leadership in Faith Leaders as Impact Leaders.
✨ Friends, together we can create safer spaces by speaking up, standing strong, and supporting one another.
