Why I am a Force for Health Member

We are dealing with a pressing need to use and understand numbers, calculations, and conclusions based on analysis. Does the science tell me I am more likely to live with our without a vaccination….those arguments are in the language of numbers. The ability to calculate and innovate solutions, and to plan my finances, are also math solutions. I am a math teacher and I see mastery of these concepts as my opportunity and responsibility. Math has never been so important to the future of my students then now.

How I use the Force for Health Network Tools

I love to use the IDEAS projects in the STEAM Teams. Analysis of problems, program design and budgeting, and success assessment is all math skills from addition, to percentages, pre-algebra, to epidemiology.

They are learning and using what they learned in the classroom as Students Taking Extraordinary Actions and Measures with their STEAM skill set. We use this as a capstone and often team teach with the PE, health, social studies, or science teachers or our after school clubs.

I also love the simplicity of using math concepts to understand certain health basics, like BMI calculation, nutritional values and energy expenditures.
