Bio and Background |
I am teaching Health Services Management and Emergency Preparedness & Management (EP&M) including during the Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic of 2019-2020 after a rich and varied career in health care.I am committed to educating all sorts of audiences about EP&M and available to deliver content in an interactive format.
Building on several years of teaching experience at Tulane University Homeland Security Studies Program after Hurricane Katrina, I joined the faculty of the University of Baltimore College of Public Affairs as an adjunct professor teaching a course on EP&M to Public Affairs Health & Human Services, and Criminal Justice graduate students.
I have been invited to speak at the ESRI Conference, guest lectured in International Affairs courses about COVID-19 as an international public health emergency, Health Law courses and at the Winter Course jointly sponsored by the University of Palermo in Sicily at UBalt.
I have also given a variety of presentations and workshops on EP&M to health care administrators in virtual and in-person sessions most recently at Lehman University in New York. I have written several articles, edited a volume on resilience, and contributed to THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NATURAL DISASTER.
My professional roles have included: Physician, Health Care Services Administrator, Health Insurance Medical Director, Municipal Public Health Emergency Planner and Manager, Teacher, Author, Caregiver of Parents, Winner of National Awards for Service and Distinction, Medical Director of the Special Needs Shelter in the New Orleans Superdome during Hurricane Katrina as well as Katrina Survivor.
My avocations include textiles, needlework history, design and finished works especially schoolgirl samplers. Other passions include the study of world history, politics, economics and humanities, and ballroom/tango dancing.
Traveling has enhanced my understanding and appreciation of avocations.
