Bio and Background

Being in practice more than 40 years has allowed me to work with some of the leading surgeons, physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, and other healthcare professionals. My true professional passion is gait & motion analysis and injury evaluation. The greatest part of this journey began 10 years ago, as my path into understanding sports injuries began with a deep dive into the rising frequency of Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) injuries in throwing athletes. What started as curiosity turned into a mission to uncover how biomechanics and movement patterns contribute to these injuries and how to prevent them.In 2015, three young pitchers were referred to me for elbow injury evaluations. All shared a common issue: less than 30 degrees of internal rotation in their lead hips. This discovery led me to question if limited hip mobility was a key factor in UCL injuries and set me on a path to uncover the deeper biomechanical links behind these patterns. After studying over 500 athletes, I found that nearly 70% exhibited restricted hip rotation. Combined with over striding during the throwing motion, this restriction placed excessive stress on the body’s interconnected systems, particularly the elbow, leading to injury. These findings underscored the importance of addressing the entire kinetic chain—from the foot to the hip to the shoulder—to fully understand and mitigate injury risks.Recognizing these patterns taught me that injury prevention requires a holistic approach. By connecting the dots between seemingly unrelated areas of the body, I help athletes not only recover but also perform at their highest potential.Today, I collaborate with physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, and baseball coaches to refine these strategies, share insights, and keep athletes healthy. If you’re looking for expertise in preventing or addressing throwing injuries, reach out—I’m here to help. Together, we can protect athletes and advance their performance.–Chuck Wolf MS, FAFS
