Medical Minutes with Dr. Rob: Stomach Cancer
Hi, this is Dr. Rob with Dr. Rob’s Medical Minutes.
November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month.
Why it’s Important
Stomach cancer, or gastric cancer, accounts for over 26,000 new cases each year in the U.S. It’s often diagnosed late due to its subtle symptoms, making early detection challenging but crucial for improving outcomes.
Symptoms and Findings
Symptoms can include indigestion, bloating, loss of appetite, nausea, and stomach pain. Because these symptoms are common to other conditions, they’re often overlooked until the cancer is more advanced.
What to Do and Ask Your Doctor
If you experience persistent digestive issues, weight loss, or unusual discomfort, talk to your doctor. Screening options are limited, but early consultation can lead to prompt testing and improved chances of early diagnosis.
