Occupational Therapy Awareness Week: Restoring Life, One Skill at a Time
👋 Hi, I’m Dr. Rob Gillio, Chief Medical Officer for the Force for Health Network.
This week is Occupational Therapy Awareness Week, and I want to take a moment not just as a doctor, but as a recent patient — to say thank you.
🛠️ What Is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy, or OT, is a specialized form of care that helps people regain independence and function in daily life after injury, illness, or disability.
Whether it’s learning to button a shirt, cook a meal, write your name, or use adaptive tools — OTs are the champions of life’s little victories.
🏥 Why It Matters — A Personal Note
As someone who’s had four surgeries in just two years, I can say from experience: occupational therapists have made a huge difference in my recovery.
They have the patience of saints, celebrating every small success and helping me re-learn daily tasks that most people take for granted.
When you’re dealing with permanent changes to your body or ability, their knowledge, encouragement, and creativity help restore not just function — but dignity and hope.
🌎 Who Benefits?
Stroke survivors rebuilding mobility
Children with developmental delays
Seniors adapting to aging or arthritis
Workers recovering from injury
Anyone navigating life with chronic illness or disability
OT helps people of all ages not just survive — but thrive.
💡 Let’s take action together.
This week, honor an occupational therapist. Learn what they do. Share your gratitude. And if you know someone struggling to recover or adapt, connect them with these unsung heroes.
Because helping someone live their best possible life is what real health care looks like.
Learn it. Live it. Share it.
I’m Dr. Rob Gillio — thank you for being a Force for Health.
Let me know if you’d like to pair this with a visual tribute or blog post featuring your recovery journey and a spotlight on your OT team.
