National Volunteer Month: Be Ready. Be Kind. Be a Force for Health.
👋 Hi, I’m Dr. Rob Gillio, Chief Medical Officer for the Force for Health Network.
April is National Volunteer Month — and I want to take a moment to honor those who give their time, energy, and heart to help others. Whether you’re volunteering next door or across the world, it matters.
🌎 Lessons from the Front Lines
Over the years, I’ve volunteered in challenging places — from Honduras, to Ground Zero after 9/11, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Only go if you’re trained, self-sufficient, and prepared to help — not become a burden.
Bring your own supplies. Know the mission. Coordinate with organizations already on the ground.
Well-meaning but unprepared volunteers can sometimes slow down emergency response — and nobody wants that.
🏡 But You Don’t Have to Travel to Make a Difference
Right in your own community, you can do powerful work.
At the Force for Health Network, we use the I.D.E.A.S. model —
Identify a barrier to health,
Design a local strategy,
Engage a team,
Act together, and
Share your impact.
Whether it’s addressing food insecurity, access to education, or job training — volunteer teams can free up community funds for what’s really needed, like supplies and services.
💪 Volunteering = Sharing Kindness
Volunteering isn’t just about giving — it’s about sharing kindness, solving problems, and strengthening your neighborhood.
That’s why in our REALITY HEALTH GAMES, giving your time counts as points — because it makes a real-world impact.
💡 Let’s take action together.
Get trained. Get involved. And give what you can — where you are — with purpose and preparation.
Learn it. Live it. Share it.
I’m Dr. Rob Gillio — thanks for being a volunteer, and a true Force for Health.
