WORLD HEMOPHILIA DAY

World Hemophilia Day 2025: “Access for All: Women and Girls Bleed Too”
On April 17, 2025, the global bleeding disorders community will come together to observe World Hemophilia Day, an annual event that raises awareness about hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. This year’s theme, “Access for all: Women and girls bleed too,” emphasizes the critical need to recognize, diagnose, and provide care for women and girls with bleeding disorders (WGBDs). Historically, WGBDs have been underdiagnosed, underserved, and overlooked in the bleeding disorders community.
This year is a call to action—ensuring equitable access to treatment and care means that everyone, including women and girls, can live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Improving awareness, enhancing diagnosis, and expanding access to treatment will not only transform the lives of women and girls but also strengthen the entire bleeding disorders community.
Three Facts:
1. Women and girls with bleeding disorders often go undiagnosed because their symptoms—such as heavy menstrual bleeding or excessive postpartum bleeding—are misattributed to other health issues, delaying proper treatment.
2. Lack of awareness and stigma has resulted in generations of women silently suffering the effects of untreated bleeding disorders, such as anemia, pain, or life-threatening complications.
3. Equitable access to comprehensive care—including genetic counseling, specialized treatments, and support for menstrual bleeding—empowers women and girls to better manage their conditions and improves their long-term quality of life.
How You Can Help:
1. Raise awareness about the specific challenges women and girls with bleeding disorders face by sharing educational content using the hashtag #WorldHemophiliaDay.
2. Advocate for improved access to care, diagnosis, and treatment for women and girls, and support healthcare providers in recognizing their unique symptoms.
3. Join or organize local events to mark World Hemophilia Day, such as walks, virtual discussions, or “Light It Up Red” campaigns where landmarks illuminate in red to support the cause.
Three Resources:
1. World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) – Global leader in advocacy, education, and support for individuals with bleeding disorders.
2. Hemophilia Federation of America – Providing resources and a platform for empowering women and girls.
3. National Hemophilia Foundation – Focused on education, treatment, and promoting research for people with bleeding disorders.
This April 17th, let’s celebrate our community’s progress and continue working toward a future where everyone—including women and girls—has access to diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care. Together, we can create lasting change.

The event is finished.
