National Cancer Control Month: Preventing and Battling Cancer Together

April is National Cancer Control Month, a time to focus on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer while supporting survivors and advocating for improved cancer care. This month emphasizes the importance of healthy lifestyle habits, regular screenings, and access to quality healthcare to reduce cancer risk and mortality rates.

Three Facts:

1. Approximately 40% of cancers in the U.S. are preventable through lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising regularly.
2. Early detection through screenings like mammograms, colonoscopies, and Pap smears dramatically increases the chances of successful treatment for many cancers.
3. Advances in treatments like targeted therapies and immunotherapy are improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients.

How to Get Involved in April:

1. Schedule cancer screenings and encourage loved ones to do the same.
2. Support cancer research organizations by donating or volunteering.
3. Spread awareness using social media and hashtags like #CancerControlMonth to educate others about prevention.

Three Resources:

  1. American Cancer Society – Tools for cancer prevention, resources for patients, and volunteer opportunities.
  2. National Cancer Institute – Comprehensive information on cancer research, treatment, and prevention.
  3. Prevent Cancer Foundation – Focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and outreach programs.
