Pre-Op: Getting Ready for Surgery: The BASICS

Learning Objectives:

For patients and family members, you often know the date of an elective surgery. This journey will help you count down to it and be sure you are ready. It was created by Dr. Rob as a tool for himself when he had cervical spine surgery in 2022. Be guided by Dr. Robert Gillio’s video, and the text based on the PDF in the Materials section from the Mayo Clinic and CDC.gov web sites.

You will:

Understand how to prepare and also support your family as they support you
Have documents ready in case of issues so your family can handle finances and medical care decisions
Understand your role as an advocate for your care and be a part of the health care team as a valued and active participant.

Time Required: Take time to look at about 10 2-4 minute videos to be physical, mentally, and logistically be better prepared for your upcoming surgery.
