Celebrating a #ForceForHealthHero—Addison Konlan

As Chief Medical Officer at The Force for Health Network, it’s always a privilege to witness the growth and success of individuals who exemplify what it means to be a #ForceForHealthHero. This week, I’m thrilled to highlight the achievements of Addison Konlan, who has truly embodied the spirit of our mission.

Three years ago, Addison was a dedicated student in Accra, Ghana. He was recruited to serve as The Force for Health Network Manager for his country, where he collaborated with scholars from the EduCom Foundation to create invaluable resources on nutrition and infectious diseases. Together, they began implementing Force for Health Network content with students, making a tangible impact on their community.

I had the honor of writing a letter of recommendation for Addison, and I also contributed a small amount to support his application to universities in the United States. Today, I am immensely proud to announce that Addison has been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he will pursue a Ph.D. in science and sustainability. His goal is to return to Ghana and apply his knowledge to improve the lives of his fellow citizens.

Seeing Addison at the EduCom Foundation Gala in New York, just hours after he arrived in the United States for the first time, was a heartwarming moment. It reminded me of the power of mentorship and the incredible potential that can be unlocked when we extend opportunities to those with promise.

I challenge everyone reading this to find an “Addison” in their neighborhood or within their reach. Share your knowledge, resources, and support. The return on investment in nurturing someone’s potential is one of the greatest rewards we can experience in life.

Let’s continue to be a force for health—one hero at a time.
