Random Acts of Kindness Day: A Global Celebration of Goodwill

Thoughts on kindness.

It really comes down to putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. What might they be feeling or experiencing or thinking right now? And put yourself in their shoes and say, what would I want to have happened to me if that was the case? and then trying to emulate that to the best you can. Sometimes you make a mistake, you ask someone a question and they’re, they’re upset that, why would you ever bring that up? But sometimes to be, thank you for asking about Dad. You know, I haven’t talked about ’em in a long time, and I’ve been grieving and everyone avoids the topics, so let’s talk about it or about some other issue, or, thank you for bringing over that casserole. Man, we are busy. Thanks for cooking this dinner for us

Think of what it would be to be in someone else’s shoes, you know, um, I think the, the, the goal really is to sprint and run towards being empathetic and caring about someone and really crawling towards judgment. So kindness is delaying judgment until you really have empathy. Start communication in the meantime with kind words, kind, gestures, and I think kindness on a local basis can become a glocal, global local phenomenon.

All right. Look for ways to be kind, um, when you can. That’s my advice for you today.

February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day, a special day dedicated to uplifting others through generosity, empathy, and small gestures of positivity. Established in New Zealand in 1995 before becoming globally recognized, this day inspires individuals to find creative ways to brighten the lives of others, no matter how small or simple the act.

Three Facts:
1. Practicing kindness regularly is linked to lower blood pressure, reduced stress, and increased feelings of self-worth, according to research from the Mayo Clinic.
2. Kindness is contagious—those who witness acts of kindness are more likely to pay it forward, creating ripple effects across communities.
3. The most impactful acts of kindness are often low-cost or free, such as lending a listening ear, smiling at a passerby, or expressing gratitude.

How to Celebrate:
1. Surprise neighbors with homemade treats or a cheerful note.
2. Pay it forward at the coffee shop or drive-thru by purchasing for the next person in line.
3. Challenge yourself to complete one thoughtful act of kindness for a stranger, friend, or family member every hour of the day.

Three Resources:

2. National Day Calendar – Inspiration for recognizing this unique day.
