Fact: More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, and it’s projected to affect nearly 13 million by 2050.

Hi, this is Dr. Rob with Dr. Rob’s Medical Minutes.
November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Why it’s Important
Alzheimer’s disease affects memory, thinking, and behavior, impacting families as well as individuals. Early diagnosis can improve quality of life and allow for planning and support, as the disease is progressive and currently incurable.

Symptoms and Findings
Early signs include memory loss, confusion about time or place, difficulty completing familiar tasks, and mood changes. As the disease progresses, symptoms become more severe, affecting daily independence.

What to Do and Ask Your Doctor
If you notice signs of memory issues in yourself or a loved one, talk to your doctor about cognitive screening. Early diagnosis opens options for care planning and lifestyle modifications to slow symptom progression. Support services are available to help families cope with the challenges Alzheimer’s brings.
