7.15 When to Call the Doctor

If you’re a new parent, it can be tough to know when your baby is sick and when they just have a cold. Here are some signs that you should call the doctor:
1. Your baby has a fever of 100.4 or higher.
2. Your baby is under 3 months old and has a fever.
3. Your baby has a fever that lasts longer than 3 days.
4. Your baby has a rash that doesn’t go away after 24 hours.
5. Your baby is vomiting or has diarrhea for more than 24 hours.
6. Your baby is not urinating at least every 6 hours.
7. Your baby is not gaining weight.
8. Your baby has a stiff neck or head.
9. Your baby is irritable and won’t stop crying.
10. You’re concerned about your baby’s health for any reason.
If you’re ever unsure, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and give your doctor a call. They can help you figure out what’s going on and whether or not your baby needs to be seen.
