7.11 Circumcision Care

‘-Clean the circumcision site with soap and water every day.
-Gently pull back the foreskin and wash underneath it.
-Do not force the foreskin to retract if it is still attached to the head of the penis. This could cause pain or bleeding.
-If you see any redness, swelling, discharge, or bleeding, call your child’s doctor.
-Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly (such as Vaseline) to the circumcision site each day to keep it from sticking to the diaper.
-Your child may have a yellowish crust on the circumcision site. This is normal and will go away on its own.
-The circumcision site will heal in about 7 to 10 days.
-Give your child acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain relief, as needed.
-Have your child take a bath every day until the circumcision site heals.
