Tucson Alphas Year of Service Project – Equity in Education

Ancillary Programs in Development

  • The Black Youth Initiative—Address the needs of both our female and male students in our community. This would be the collaboration with young women’s groups, i.e. dance, delta gems, and also the boys and girls clubs
  • The Leadership Cohort Initiative—We can make this a College to Corporate Life Program if it fits through a partnership. Can also be a continuation of a collaboration w/corporate participation through our lesson
  • Advancing Blacks in Information Systems (Q3 2021)—Collaboration with Sunquest Information Systems Brother Ventress this time around and make his REACT program and Healthcare Information Systems the focus area this upcoming year, then re-evaluate future collaborations. A future collaboration can be with RAYBEN and Links and their STEM program or any other industries where African Americans are underrepresented.
  • Scholarship Support—The idea is that with our mixed-gender group so we can funnel the young men to Felix Goodwin and the young women to other community-based scholarships geared towards them Students that have been involved in our Education Equity Cohorts will be held in high regard for these scholarship programs.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

We live in a divided nation. The events of the last four years and most certainly the insurrection at the Capitol on Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 have shown us that while 2020 was an awakening to some, we still have many more that deny systemic and institutional racism exists in this country.

WE, meaning the “village”; every church, every fraternity, every sorority, every professional organization, every youth mentoring group, have the most pressing responsibility to protect, encourage and motivate our young Black men and women before they set out into the country that they have been left.

Let the Tucson Alphas be a part of this process by leading and mentoring our young Black men in our community. With your support, we can give these young men the tools they need to succeed, thrive and most importantly, SURVIVE as a Black man in the United States of America.
