SUMMARY:American Diabetes Month
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nNovember is National Diabetes Month, an opportunity for local and regional advocates to team up and work with partners across the United States to raise awareness of the illness. The campaign hopes to raise awareness of symptoms, promote healthy living and ensure people are aware of risk factors.\n\n\n\nOne in ten Americans have diabetes. Another 84 million are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. However there are small things that those at risk can do to minimise the risk of suffering with type 2.\n\n\n\nThe national cost of diabetes to the US is $245billion, and while for many this is a condition that is unavoidable, if more people acted upon medical advice and were aware of the risk factors, this cost could be reduced.\n\n\n\nAs is typical of these campaigns, every years hosts a different focus area. The theme for 2018 focused on health following gestational diabetes. The themes for 2019 & 2020 are not yet confirmed but come back for more information!\n\n\n\nEach November, the American Diabetes Association promotes American Diabetes Month ( https://www.diabetes.org/community/american-diabetes-month ) to raise awareness about diabetes and share helpful resources. Join the conversation using these NHO resources ( https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/community-health-outreach/national-diabetes-month#:~:text=November%20is%20National%20Diabetes%20Month,of%20youth%20who%20have%20diabetes. ) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). You can also share our easy-to-understand MyHealthfinder resources ( https://health.gov/myhealthfinder/topics/health-conditions/diabetes ) to help people learn about diabetes. And don’t forget to take a look at the Healthy People 2030 objectives ( https://health.gov/healthypeople/objectives-and-data/browse-objectives/diabetes#:~:text=Goal%3A%20Reduce%20the%20burden%20of,seventh%20leading%20cause%20of%20death.&text=Healthy%20People%202030%20focuses%20on,cases%2C%20complications%2C%20and%20deaths. ) related to diabetes. Finally, keep up with the National Clinical Care Commission’s work ( https://health.gov/our-work/health-care-quality/national-clinical-care-commission ) to improve federal diabetes programs!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
